Mobile App Review Policy

The Mobile Initiatives Committee will periodically review all published mobile apps. During the review, they will look at the following items:

  • Does the app work correctly with the latest version of the appropriate mobile OS (iOS or Android)?
  • Is the information in the app still relevant and up to date?
  • Are there any security issues with the code or a third party library?
  • Are there deprecated elements of the app that need to be updated?
  • Is the app still on brand for the University?
  • Does the app look outdated?

The Committee will conduct this review approximately once per year or sooner if needed. Based on the results of the review, the Committee may make recommendations to the app developer to bring the app up to current standards. The developer will then have 4 months to submit an updated version of the app for review. If the developer is unable to commit to updating the app in a reasonable amount of time, the app may be temporarily removed from the app store until an updated version is provided for review and approved.

In some cases, a security vulnerability may be discovered with an app or a third party library used by the app. The developer of the app will be notified of the issue and given up to 3 months to provide an updated version with the security issue fixed. Based on the severity of the vulnerability, the Committee reserves the right to temporarily remove the app from the app store until the issue is fixed.
